How to Write a Healthcare Job Posting That Attracts Better Applicants
Clear postings save time on both sides. When the essentials are stated plainly, the people who apply already know what the role involves.
Use a job title people search for
Use the recognized professional title rather than an internal job code or a title unique to your organization. Add the specialty or unit where it helps.
State profession and specialty explicitly
Profession and specialty fields drive filtering, so fill them accurately rather than relying on the description text.
Be specific about location and work arrangement
- Name the city and site, or state clearly if the role rotates between locations.
- Indicate on-site, hybrid, or remote where applicable.
Include compensation where you can
Where your organization allows it, publishing a range or hourly rate reduces mismatched applications. If a range cannot be published, describe how compensation is determined.
Set shift and employment expectations up front
- Shift types: days, evenings, nights, rotating, weekends.
- Hours per week or per pay period.
- Employment type: permanent, temporary, contract, casual.
- On-call requirements, if any.
Separate responsibilities from requirements
Responsibilities describe the work. Requirements describe what someone must hold to be considered. Mixing them makes it harder for a professional to judge fit.
Keep requirements to what the role genuinely needs — long lists of preferred extras discourage qualified applicants.
State licensing and registration requirements clearly
Name the registration or licence required and the jurisdiction that issues it. Note whether applicants in progress toward registration will be considered.
Describe benefits and workplace environment honestly
Cover the practical items — benefits, leave, education support, orientation — and describe the team and setting accurately. A posting that oversells the environment costs more time later than it saves.
